This was a quiet comfortable building until several owners lobbied for hardwood floors which they promised would be almost as quiet as carpet The new owners of the unit above us installed council approved hardwood that transmits sounds as small as a screw dropping The owners have promised their cooperation for months but they and the Strata Council have done nothing We can hear each step above us On weekends we are treated to hours of floor cleaning furniture being pushed around repeated walking the length of their unit in shoes and numerous guests wearing shoes The retired owner talks loudly on the phone coughs frequently and plays a musical instrument all of which sound as if he's sitting in our own unit A former council member who approved the flawed hardwood and under padding admits that the floor has to be properly prepared for the under padding to deaden sound That issue was not revealed by the proponents of hardwood flooring and was apparently not reviewed during installation of the floor above us
